Hello everyone, good day judges, my fellow debaters, and accurate timekeeper, I am here to offer points to prove that skill is better than education, and I will love and appreciate you giving me your attention as I break points down.

Skill is like having something to do or having an idea for something, including having the energy to carry it out, while most people can be educated without skills and end up without a job because just a foreign job can’t give you all you need.

In some organizations, education alone can’t take you or keep you because you still need that skill to scale through, and I have seen cases where people without education work in bigger companies with just their skills.

Someone with skill can establish his knowledge or work intelligence and get a company established, then employ those with education to work under them, who have proven skills over education.

However, this article is not taking down on education, but for the purpose of those supporting the motion, I will reveal the main advantages of skills, and why everyone should have skills, build on them and use them to make a living.

Debate Points on Why Skill is Better Than Education

1. Skill is Highly in Need

Yes, you all will believe with me that education without skills can’t take you anyhow, but skills without education can still put food on your table and get you established or successful.

There is a high demand for skills currently which places bigger advantages over education as many graduates use not just their degree to get work, but their skills give them that work, and education helps them protect the job for higher promotions.

Let me give you an instance when a man has graduated from an institution, let’s say the man has just a degree in electrical engineering, but doesn’t have that idea of engineering or anything related, just a degree, it will be hard for that man to get work because he will need a physical working experience to ensure that skill inbuilt into him.

Just a degree won’t give you that working space, all industry owners currently need people with the physical, and mental idea of how work is done, good communication skills, and team management skills as well to keep working going.

2. Skill Creates Changes 

With just a degree, you can’t fully add or implement changes to an organization or company, but with skills like critical thinking, good communication and others, one can bring about good changes in an organization.

You can’t do well with a team or do well in an organization without having people you can relate to. A business can’t grow or make waves without good customer service, which boils down to communication skills.

Furthermore, you can work with people if you don’t have the teamwork skills, or the ability to think in critical situations and solve problems as well, all these are skills in various aspects, which everyone also needs to have, and not just a degree.

So believe me when I say skill is more important than education because I have seen many educated people without any skill or handwork that are frustrated because there is no job.

3. Skill Creates Employment Opportunities 

Just as I regularly say, having good skills can offer you job opportunities, and can also keep you employed for as long as you want. A person with skills can create a job for him or herself, while one with just education and nothing to do, is like a waste, only waiting for a company that will employ them.

Let me give you an instance of a friend who graduated from the university as a medical practitioner. However, she couldn’t get a job immediately because she needed more educational degrees to build that physical or practical knowledge in the field.

But she knows how to bake cake and other snacks, so she started up immediately from her house, and within a space of two years, she could achieve many things, had workers, owned her own workspace, and with regular good income.

So imagine she doesn’t have that knowledge or skill for snacks, she would or may have still been at home looking for a job up and down, and might not even be able to achieve half of what she has now, so do you see that skill is now better than education in this aspect?

4. Skill is Self Taught / Transferable 

You can easily craft a skill for yourself, develop it and perfect yourself, unlike education which is even more expensive now and requires more time, money and energy to acquire or achieve.

Most times, some skills are easily achieved or gotten within a short period of time without waiting for a paper degree to be established or successful, so this also becomes another great advantage that proves skill to be better than education.

5. Skill is Cheaper Than Education 

Yes, we all know that it costs little or nothing to acquire a skill and stay established in that skill, unlike education which needs almost half of your lifetime’s studies and time.

Certain skills can demand your time and hard work to get achieved and scale to perfection, but education surely needs your time, energy, and money to get just that single degree, so this alone makes the skill more better than education.

Let’s assume you want to achieve snack baking skills, just your first time paying for a baking academy, and your spending time with them, you are good and ready to become self-employed and established.

However, education requires your time, money and many more to get going and establish yourself before you can think of making it with your degree, but you still need skills to become more successful as an employed worker.

Skill and education work together, you need them both, but for the sake of education and those supporting this motion, the above points are the benefits or advantages of skills over education everyone should know.
